Modeling and Simulation (funding period 2)

Nowadays, numerical simulation provides an indispensable tool in the analysis and construction of production processes in science and industry. Mostly, finite element methods are applied because of the flexibility of this approach. Consequently, most of the research projects in the transregional collaborative research centre 73 use finite element simulations among other numerical simulation methods. The numerical simulation is thereby based on modeling the single processes. According to this fact, the working group modeling and simulation was directly established at the beginning of the research. The working group focuses on the exchange of experience in the interdiscplinary environment of the collaborative research centre. To this end, regular meetings of the working group are organised. However, the superior aim of the working group is to provide the developed simulation methods of single research projects to all participants in the collobarative research centre. The working group organizes the distribution of developed and testet user subroutines. Furthermore, common standards for the documentation and error control of the software modules are worked out. The common simulation environment is based on the simulation software simufact.forming (www.simufact.de). Simufact awarded the Scientific Award to the presentation of the working group during the 14th simufact RoundTable 2013.

With regard to the realization of the set goals of the Working Group and also the use of simulation software simufact.forming, among others, the following meetings and workshops were organized:
