New functions via new production processes

The goal of the working group "Component Properties and Function" is to identify:

1) which design properties are possible by sheet-bulk metal forming,

2) what new parts are manufacturable by sheet-bulk metal forming and

3) what new functions can be created in existing parts.

The possibilities for manufacturing of gearing, carriers, cones or locking elements were discussed on the basis of the demonstrator. With these results and on the foundation of realisable shapes it was possible to predict which new elements are a possibility for the future work in the current funding period.

It is planned to investigate the combination of single process steps of a process chain theoretically and experimentally.  Based on these considerations and experiments suggestions should be derived that enable the projects to define ideal interfaces for the following project. This optimal use of the potential of sheet-bulk metal forming will lead to an as-large-as-possible variety of element types which can implement as many functions as possible in the sheet-bulk metal formed part.
